Paper Talk: Man Utd scouted Sevilla sensation during Europa defeat; Arsenal agree defender deal

Manchester United scouted a Sevilla sensation during their Europa League loss, while Arsenal are close to a defender deal, according to Tuesday’s newspaper gossip.

Manchester United reportedly scouted their next left-back during the Europa League defeat to Sevilla on Sunday night.

Red Devils youngster Brandon Williams started the loss against the Spanish side in the absence of injured Luke Shaw.

But despite being handed a new deal this season, the 19-year-old is still regarded as a squad player at Old Trafford. With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanting more competition for Shaw.

To that end, the Manchester Evening News claims that United scouted Sevilla full-back Sergio Reguilon in Cologne.

The 23-year-old has spent the season on loan with Sevilla from Real Madrid and was named LaLiga Defender of the Year for his performances at the Andalusian side.

Reguilon was a constant threat down during Sunday’s game, causing the normally solid Aaron Wan-Bissaka issues all night.

The defender also provided an inch-perfect cross for Sevilla’s opening goal, his fifth assist of the season so far.

Despite his impressive showings for Sevilla, reports claim Real Madrid are willing to cash in on the defender this summer.

Zinedine Zidane splashed out £43million to sign Ferland Mendy from Lyon last summer and the Frenchman remains first-choice at the Bernabeu.

Reguilon was wanted by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp this summer. However, the Reds were unwilling to meet Madrid’s £18m valuation and moved for Kostas Tsimkas instead.

Chelsea are also believed to have shortlisted the Spain international as alternative to the expensive Ben Chilwell.

Although Reguilon’s price may have gone up after his impressive display against United, he would probably represent more of a bargain than Chilwell – who is still valued at £80m by the Foxes.
