Jose Mourinho insists he wants to give all of his players the chance to play after a heavily rotated Tottenham team impressed in the Europa League.
Spurs beat Ludogorets 4-0 to move within a point of qualifying for the knockout rounds.
10 changes were made to the team that beat Manchester City at the weekend. Harry Kane, Heung-Min Son, Hugo Lloris, Eric Dier and Moussa Sissoko among others were rested.
That gave the likes of Dele Alli, Gareth Bale, Harry Winks and Carlos Vinicius the opportunity to play from the start.
They made quite the impression too, putting on a dominant display to take Spurs to five game unbeaten.
And speaking to BT Sport after the game, Mourinho insisted he was happy for those squad players as they “deserve” to feature.
“These game are important, every game is important,” he said. “We don’t look to a certain competition, we look to game after game.
“To play every time with the same players is not good for the players’ condition. It’s also not good for the mentality of the ones that are never playing.
“Work hard, you deserve to play. I can only start 11 but I want to give chances to everybody.
“I’m happy for them and some players had really nice performances. Japhet Tanganga played his first match after a long-term injury, [it was] a nice opportunity for the kids to get into the club’s history and make their own history.”
“Perfect” night to test youngsters
Mourinho also brought on a number of young players towards the end of the game when the result was beyond doubt.
Jack Clarke replaced Bale with 25 minutes remaining, while Harvey White and Dane Scarlett came on for the closing stages. 22-year-old goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman also took Joe Hart’s place for the last ten minutes.
All three were making their first team debuts, and Mourinho says it was the “perfect” time to give them some experience at senior level.
“I know them, I know them well. Harvey works with us every day in our squad, the same as Jack Clarke,” he added.
“Scarlett did the pre-season with us and played some pre-season matches. So we know what they can do but it has to be in the right moments with the right pressure.
“Today was the kind of game that was perfect for them to have a little bit.”
