Thiago Alcantara will leave Bayern Munich to sign for Liverpool, pundit Steve Nicol has confirmed.
Several reports have linked Liverpool with a move for the 29-year-old, who will likely leave Bayern this summer.
Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that he will entertain a “fair offer” for the player, with head coach Hansi Flick backing Thaigo to succeed in the Premier League.
Indeed, with Thiago’s current terms expiring next summer, Bayern will likely sell up to earn a respectable fee. Previous speculation has claimed that Bayern would want at least €30million (£27million) for the player.
Reports last week said Liverpool have opened initial negotiations with the German champions about a deal.
Now, journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi (via Twitter) says Liverpool and Thiago have an agreement over a four-year contract.
He even declared the player was house-hunting on Merseyside ahead of completing the move.
Those reports have since been tempered by claims that Liverpool may wait until January to seal the transfer.
That delay is also a scenario Nicol can forsee. He states the Spaniard WILL sign for Liverpool and it’s just a question of ‘when’.
He told ESPN: “Well it’s really in the hands of the Bayern board. If Liverpool don’t come up with a compromise, and I think it was £30million Bayern wanted.
“If they come up with a compromise that suits Bayern, then it’ll happen.
“But if it doesn’t happen in this window, it’s going to happen next summer when his contract runs out.
“I would suggest it’s more in Bayern’s interest to get some amount of money rather than get nothing.
“That way both Thiago is happy and Bayern get a decent amount of money as well.
“It’s hanging in the balance.
“It’s really down to the board, they’ve got to agree on a price.
“Liverpool have shown they won’t be pushed around by anybody, and if the price isn’t right they won’t take him right now.”
Six clubs in for Brewster
With Thiago due to sign, one man heading for the exit door once again is young striker Rhian Brewster.
The England Under-21 frontman impressed during a loan spell with Swansea in the second half of the season. He scored 11 times in 25 appearances as Steve Cooper’s side reached the play-offs.
Brewster was thought to be hoping for a chance to prove himself to Jurgen Klopp next season. However, according to Goal, Klopp wants the striker to continue his education elsewhere and another loan exit is likely to be sanctioned.
As such, it’s been revealed that six Premier League clubs and three from the Championship have been in touch over a potential deal.
