£42m star axed & Ndombele returns, 8 changes by Mourinho: Predicted Spurs XI v Burnley – opinion

Tottenham Hotspur return to Premier League action tonight as they face a trip to the north-west to face Burnley at Turf Moor.

Jose Mourinho’s side have remained unbeaten in all competitions since their opening day defeat to league-leading Everton – in fact, they have been rather free-scoring, putting five past Southampton and six past Manchester United.

In midweek, they saw off LASK Linz with ease in their Europa League tie with the Special One making an array of changes, many fringe players started, so surely he reverts back to his usual XI here.

This is the lineup we’re predicting for this intriguing test…

There could be as many as eight changes to the side that won in N17 on Thursday night.

Between the sticks, skipper Hugo Lloris is a shoo-in to return, taking the place of Joe Hart whilst the back four in front of him is tinkered with once again.

Left-back Ben Davies impressed in a central role in midweek, and he may well have passed the test, meaning £42m signing Davinson Sanchez is axed for the return of Toby Alderweireld.

That gives Sergio Reguilon a continued run in the Welshman’s usual role but Serge Aurier, who has started Spurs’ last two top-flight outings, comes back in for Matt Doherty.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one of the few to keep his place from the victory only four days ago. He’s likely to pair up with Moussa Sissoko and Tanguy Ndombele.

It means Harry Winks is dropped as is Erik Lamela, who played in the hole behind the striker with Giovani Lo Celso only just back from his recent injury troubles.

Gareth Bale’s full debut was encouraging but he’s still looking rather rusty, so he could be replaced by Steven Bergwijn on the right whilst Spurs’ prolific and in-form duo complete the starting XI.

Both Harry Kane and Heung-min Son have combined for whopping 28 goals together in the Premier League.

Once again, there is no sign of Dele Alli nor are there places from the off for Lucas Moura or Jack Clarke.

AND in other news, £64m-rated “joy to watch” could become Spurs’ next Paulinho…
